Why Family Leave Insurance?

Keep Families First 2It’s time for jobs that boost families and communities.

Being fired or losing a day’s pay, for taking care of an ill loved one means women can’t spend on the essentials like food, utilities and repairs – purchases that keep communities and the economy going.

We can do better.

Working families need access to paid sick days, family care days, and family and medical leave insurance.

It’s time to build on the success of WI FMLA.

Paid leave enables people to maintain basic spending levels at a time when they need it the most – contributing to overall stability for families, communities, and a growing economy.

Family and medical leave insurance has been passes in four states (CA, NJ, RI, WA). This policy allows workers to receive a portion of their pay while they take time away from work to:

  • Address a serious health condition (including pregnancy);
  • Care for a family member with a serious health condition;
  • Care for a newborn, newly-adopted child or newly-placed foster child

It’s a simple common-sense solution that is good for families, local businesses and the economy.
